Portland Harbour 27-6-08
Over the last few days I’ve had some really good sessions on my 9. Unfortunatly when we got the camera out last night the sun shyed away and the rain came out. There’s a short clip that dad shot in between spells of rain.

BKSA Round 2 Barrow-In-Furness
Round two of the BKSA series has been and gone. What an event! Classic.
After a no wind first round everyone was hoping for a windy event, and by god did we have it. Wasn’t the strongest winds but all day for 3 days was amazing!
Setting off on wednesday evening, I arrived in Birmingham later picking up James Thorne a close mate, through kiting, and Ali Reader who I met in Tarifa. We stopped over at James’ pad, then left for Barrow in the morning. On thursday as we drove up, northern monkey Luke Whiteside gave us a call and said to come to Ainsdale for a session, that we did. We arrived around mid day at Ainsdale with a light breeze blowing. We chilled at Lukes for abit and within a hour the wind had picked up enough to kite. We all left for the beach. it was 13m weather but still good. Luke was ripping on his home turf. Ali was going for his first Railey to Blinds after just a few months of kiting properly, instead he landed a Blind Judge, Sick! I was stoked to land another few S-mobes.
After a awesome session we went to Lukes work for a kebab. It was soooo gd. Best Kebab ever! Then it was time to start driving and the convoy of 3 T4 vans set off for Barrow.
I awoke Friday morning to not alot of wind. But after registration again the wind was increasing. Something freaky about the north. Must be the cold temperatures. Today was comp day so I went down to the beach and set up all my Hadlow pros ready for the event. Up in my first heat was Matt Colby and Mark Connelly. Not riding my best at all I came out of the heat in 2nd behind Matt, who turned out to be a dark horse this event. That put me into round 2. Up in round to I was against Murray. I had a better heat this time dispite losing my kite half way though, due to an unclipping leash. This put me though to the semis which I was stoked with. In my semi final I was against Kenyan cup winner Luke Whiteside, Ned Taylor, and Dan James. This was quite a sweet heat as we all get on really well and was just fun to be in. Cheering each other on etc. I managed to pull soem powered Railey to Blinds, a Front mobe, Kiteloop Pass. Unfortunatly Luke pulled some amazing moves which put him into the final. Ned and I were lucky enough to go through to the losers final to fight for a place in the final. This was going to be a super hard heat, Matt, Ned and Lewis Cathern (current BKSA Champion). After having a pretty good heat, lewis took it by far laying down soem super powered kite low moves. Knocking me out of the event. The final results were;
1st Lewis Cathern, 2nd Sam Light, 3rd Luke Whiteside, 4th Matt Colby, 5th Me.
Saturday, was going to be a chilled day for me as all my heats were finished. However there was a landboarding event happenign which I was keen to take part in. The session was 2 hours long, best rider wins basicaly. There was around 7 boarders riding with Mark Berry showing up in the last 20 mins and ripping! Lewis Wilby was also on form pulling some insane handlepass moves. Only just into landboarding I tryed kiteloops, 360’s, one foots, grabs etc. The results were;
1st Lewis Wilby, 2nd Me, 3rd Mark Berry.

Exeter Uni Kite Event
So at the weekend I headed down to Exmouth for the Exeter uni kite event. I was invited down the crew I met in Tarifa.
I arrived down in Exeter on the Saturday evening in convoy with one of the Portland locals Downwind Dave and his girlfreind Viv. We went straight into campus to start catching up with the drinking. Uni students are drinking machines! No way was I keeping up! We then went to the Lemmy, the uni’s club, to finish off the evening. Up bright and early sunday morning we headed down to Exmouth with Fred and James from the kite club. Everyone was just chilling waiting for the wind to pick up, wereas I had a sick session on my landboard. Learning a few surface passy stuff and doing some kiteloops.
As the day went on the tide dropped and the wind increased. By one there was enough wind to hit the water, however there was a lagoon about 20m wide and 100m long left. So 7 of us were fighting for space on the lagoon, while the students were getting settled in flying land kites. After a few hours of flying, all the students and riders came in and we had a BBQ on the beach and chilled all afternoon. Late that evening after the students had left the tide came in and the wind howled. So we all went out for a session in the lagoons that were filling up. I had a sick session, landing some low mobes, s-mobes and some front grabs to blind pop outs.
All in all was an awesome day. So many thanks to Fred and the guys down at Exeter uni for putting it on and lettign me get involved.

Landboarding
Recently when the winds been naff I’ve been doing abit of landboarding. I’ve given it a proper go in decent winds now about 5 times and think its sick. Bit the bullet yesterday and brought a board of my own. Will get some shots on that and put them up soon. Here’s a few shots from a session we had up on the cliffs at Overcombe, Weymouth a couple of weeks ago.
